Renewed Minds Pt 2 - Day 3

Day 3: Breaking Free from 'This Is Just Who I Am'

Devotional

One of the most destructive lies we can believe is 'This is just who I am.' How many times have you justified destructive behavior, negative thinking, or harmful patterns with this phrase? Maybe you've said, 'I'm just an angry person,' or 'I'm just naturally anxious,' or 'I just can't forgive.' But Jesus has a different message for you. He doesn't tell you to simply stop thinking wrong thoughts—that's almost useless. Instead, He comes to you and says, 'You weren't created for this. You're not supposed to carry this. This isn't who you are. Come with me and I will show you who you are.' God's truth about your identity is more powerful than any label you've placed on yourself or that others have placed on you. You are not defined by your past, your struggles, or your current circumstances. You are defined by what Christ has done for you.

Bible Verse
'Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.' - 2 Corinthians 5:17 (New King James Version)

Reflection Question
What negative labels about yourself do you need to reject in order to embrace who God says you are?

Quote
"One of the greatest lies that was ever forged in the fires of hell was the lie. This is the way you are. So many people have justified so much destructive behavior in life because they have simply said, well, this is just the way I am." Pastor Pool

Prayer
Jesus, thank You for showing me my true identity. Help me reject the lies I've believed about myself and walk in the truth of who You've made me to be.

In Jesus name amen!
